Measuring Immediate Spatial Displacement: Methodological Issues and Problems
نویسندگان
چکیده
While much attention has been paid to the idea of displacement in crime place theory and research, methodological problems associated with its measurement have often been overlooked. We focus on such issues in the context of immediate spatial displacement around hot spots of crime. Using the Minneapolis Hot Spots Experiment (Sherman and Weisburd, 1995) as an example, we identify specific problems investigators are likely to face in documenting displacement effects. We argue that conventional studies are unlikely to provide a powerful research design for examining displacement, in part because of efforts to maximize the identification of main program effects. In conclusion, we suggest that studies specifically designed for measuring displacement (and the related phenomenon of diffusion) must be developed if criminologists are to make significant advances in this area.

The adverse effect of an AED is one factor that potentially can be alleviated. Due to the growing number of available AEDs, the goal of obtaining greater cont...

Increasing urbanization in the urbanized world has posed major challenges to the sustainability of metropolitan areas, especially in developing countries in various aspects of sustainable development, and has provided them with the prospect of unsustainable development. Excessive land use and its consequent land use changes and land cover are one of the environmental problems caused by the high...
متن کاملAn Operational Definition of Affects in Urban Space in the Light of a Methodological Approach
Background & Aims: Different urban areas provoke different reactions from people of various cultures. It is key in urban designing to realize the interrelationship of constructed environments and the emotional effects on human behavior. Related investigations are based on environmental psychology and social sciences. Therefore, there is a lack of appropriate evaluation methods in the field. Yet...
متن کاملMethodological issues in the study of violence against women.
The objective of this paper is to review the methodological issues that arise when studying violence against women as a public health problem, focusing on intimate partner violence (IPV), since this is the form of violence that has the greatest consequences at a social and political level. The paper focuses first on the problems of defining what is meant by IPV. Secondly, the paper describes th...

Based on the correlation diagram between the master and slave images (Fig. 5), the pair of appropriate images in terms of the shortest spatial and temporal lines is identified to produce the interferogram. As shown in Fig. 5, the maximum vertical baseline is obtained between -400 and -400. The obtained interferograms indicate the cumulative phase of the study area, which fluctuates between zero...
